An Open Letter From Angie Gaut

At the AGM a few years ago when the matter of the County Merit being changed from one venue on a Sunday to 8 venues midweek was discussed  following things were decided.

(1) There would be qualifying in Telford on a Tuesday and Shrewsbury on a Thursday.

(2)The allocation of greens per area would be according to entries per area.

(3)Anyone could enter at either end, whichever night or location suited them best.

For years it had been held in Shrewsbury or Telford everyone had been together at one location and consequently the qualifiers was never determined by whether you had a Shrewsbury, Telford,  Wolverhampton, or Wales postcode everyone was equal. Just as a matter of interest if this year the players who play for Telford clubs and chose to play in Shrewsbury had travelled to Telford to play then Telford would have had 5 Greens and  Shreswbury only 3.  So come on all isn't it about time we acted as one County and stopped being petty about which side of the river we live. I thought we had got past all that many years ago....

It has been announced that Shirley James of Wrockwardine Wood has been nominated by the County to be British Crown Green President in 2009. I'm sure you will all be very pleased to hear the news. Shirley has been involved in the ladies Leagues since they first began, and it is a fitting accolade in recognition of her services to bowling
