Results and Photo of Junior mixed Shropshire Ladies Crown Green Bowling Association Junior Mixed Competiton On the green of Albrighton B.C. date: Sat 23rd June 2007 As in previous years, Ladies
County President, Joyce Barnes generously sponsored the competition as well as
provided lunch and prizes for all of the 30 competitors at the Shropshire Ladies
Crown Green Bowling Association’s Junior Mixed Competition staged at
Albrighton Bowling Club. Joyce commented that it was a small price to pay to see
so many of the county’s young bowlers enjoying and playing the game so well,
views echoed by Association Chairman, Mabel Owen. The competitors, in pairs,
were split into groups and the early stages of the competition were played in a
“round robin” format where teams played three games before the groups top
teams played in the semi finals. In the semi finals, the Jade Jones/Perry
Evans partnership proved too strong as they powered to a 15-0 win in 8 ends over
the luckless Martin Gaut/Sally Clee, whilst Holly Bishton/Robert Roden found
themselves 13-0 down before staging a brief fight back as the Cheryl
Caswell/Mike Wainwright pairing finished them off 15-6. The final saw Cheryl
& Mike, playing a 21 metre mark across the green, in front of the club
house, that had proved fruitful all day, produce even more as they raced into a
17-1 lead before Jade & Perry wrestled the jack and stretched the game and
rallied by playing the corners, but it all proved to be in vane as Cheryl &
Mike eventually edged their way to a well deserved 21-8 victory. The second
placed teams in the groups played in a consolation competition where in an
almost mirror image of the main competition final, Katie Roden partnered by Josh
Bradburn ran out convincing winners 21-7 over Kerry Newbrook & David Lloyd. The day’s competition organiser and Association Secretary, Angela Gaut thanked and congratulated all the competitors for providing families and spectators with a feast of fine bowling matched with the mutual respect for each other.
